When first starting out in business, getting your brand noticed in the sea of competitors can seem daunting and overwhelming to even know where to start.

This week we will look at how to use social media to effectively build your online brand.

 



Social Media

These days you can’t look sideways without social media being in your face. It’s a fact of today’s world that we live in an online society. So it won’t surprise you that the most popular methods to increase web traffic are through social media platforms.

 

The first five platforms we look at, we believe are essential business branding tools that all businesses should use to some degree. Across all platforms you should make sure that you have active links back to your page. It is important to make sure you include these five platforms in your overall marketing strategy.

Another platform that we always recommend to our clients is Google+. While this platform isn’t as big as some of the others in terms of monthly active users, it is obviously owned by Google and any activity on Google+ increases your SEO rankings.

Video and recording social platforms are also a great way to get your brand out into the public eye. Make sure you always include links back to your site not only in the content that you publish but in the descriptions as well.

Other social media platforms might be seen as too edgy, too young or perhaps to difficult to use in a full marketing plan but these platforms are a great way to build a more personable engagement with customers. Don’t discount a social media platform purely because “it’s what the young kids use” instead look to ways on how these can help spread your marketing messages.

It seems that new social media platforms are popping up every day so make sure you keep your ear to the ground for new trends and apps and see how you can implement these into your marketing strategy. Some other of the more unconventional social media platforms that you can also use are:

Finally our last piece of advice for making sure you get the most bang for you buck when it comes to a social media strategy is to make sure you include tags and hashtags for everything. Make sure you tag in any relevant people or companies that you might reference in a post. You never know – they might just share your post and before you know it, your post has a much wider reach than you originally anticipated.

 

Hashtags are an artform in themselves and there are thousands of articles that will tell you the best way to utilize these to gain maximum reach. Some will say use a lot of hash tags to get your brand out to as many people as possible, but we at Web Rhino think that the best approach is to pick a few well thought through hashtags that will get your brand and message in front of the right people.
